What an ignominy – from the team that all others feared to face to what they are now ?
With the advent of One day Cricket, West Indies soon reached a crescendo pummelling others to defeats. It possessed some of the greatest of pace merchants like Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Wayne Daniel, Colin Croft, Joel Garner, Malcolm Marshall, Ian Bishop, Patrick Patterson, Courtney Walsh, Courtley Ambrose to name a few.. and there were the great assaulters of the ball like Roy Fredricks, Gordon Greenidge, Alwin Kalicharran, Isaav Vivian Alexander Richards, Clive Hudert Lloyd, Desmond Haynes, Richie Richardson, Deryck Murray, Faud Bachaus, Gus Logie, Phil Simmons, Brian Lara – again to name a few.
One opponent after another hit the dust as WI won almost all their matches.. a single win in an Onedayer was considered a great achievement those days. They won the Inaugural WC in 1975 and came back strongly to win again in 1979. India made history by recording their first win against WI at Berbice in that 1982-83 tour and then won the first match of 1983 WC as also the finals on 25th June 1983 – all under the captaincy of Kapil Dev.
Many series might be affected by rain or some other factors bringing in a ‘no result’ during a series or the opposition could register a solitary win. There were many blackwashes when WI were dominant.

All that is becoming a thing of the past as WI is becoming prone to lose that too abject surrenders at times.
Yesterday might rankle as one of their worst performances as they were skittled out for a lowly 61 with Shakib taking 4 for 16. The start was ordinary and from 33/1, WI lost their rest 9 cheaply for 28 runs. They had lost 6 at the score of 38 ; 48 for 8 and then 61 all out. Darren Bravo, Kieren Pollard, Kemar Roach all failed to score..
West Indies have been shot out for less than 100 on 6 occasions and surprisingly these have been against South Africa , Bangladesh , Sri Lanka , Australia , Zimbabwe and Kenya !! and it is not a matter of surprise that 4 of them have occurred in the present century ; all of them after 1992.
