Celebrating VIJAY DIWAS and remembering those Indian soldiers of 1971 War

Today, 16th Dec is a Very Important Day for the NATION.

Commemorating this day, 40 years ago, State Bank of Pakistan became Bangladesh Bank and today is celebrated as Bijoy Dibosh by our neighbours Bangladesh.

In our Nation, Vijay Divas is commemorated every 16th December,  as it marks the third decisive military victory over arch-rival Pakistan achieved on 16th December 1971.  Four years ago, on this day  in 1971, the Indian Army won war against Pakistan and a liberated Bangladesh emerged.  On this day in 1971, the Pakistani Army surrendered to the Indo-Bangladeshi High Command in Dhaka, ending the 9 month-long  Bangladesh Liberation War and 1971 Bangladesh atrocities. General AAK Niazi, the Commanding officer of the Pakistani Armed Forces located in East Pakistan, surrendered his forces to Lt. Gen. Jagjit Singh Aurora, the Allied forces commander.

This is not to be confused with “Kargil Vijay Diwas” named after the success of Operation Vijay – which on - 26th of July 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistani intruders. The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days, ended on 26th of July.

The Nation remembers all the Gallant soldiers of the 1971 Indo-Pak war for their supreme sacrifice."It is essential that we salute our heroes. We feel secure in our homes because of our armed forces and this is an occasion to remember their courage and sacrifice.
