Tuesday 11th Dec
2012, marked the birth anniversary of Desiya Kavi Subramanya Bharathi, considered
the icon of Tamil pride. A great poet, prolific writer, positive thinker, man
with progressive ideals, great visionary, genius ~ man who thought much ahead
of his times, the National poet lived only for 39 years.
Vanavil Panpattu Maiyam
grandly organized Birthday celebrations at the very place where he resided in
Thiruvallikkeni, Thulasinga Perumal Kovil Street, just opposite Lord Azhagiya
Singar sannathi.
On the sands of Marina
beach, opp to PWD, there is the statute of Bharathiyar and was happy to see the
statue garlanded by Govt. of Tamilnadu.
At Triplicane, the Traders
under their banner ‘Thiruvallikkeni Vyabarigal Sangam’ celebrated the birthday
by garlanding and by putting up posters, which was a thing to relish.
Today’s Times of India
carries a photo of a school in Chennai which celebrated by asking students to
dress up as the Tamil poet, but its warning, obviously put up earlier, stuck
out like a sore thumb ~ an aberration.

on ‘strong mind and committed will power’ courtesy : http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~vasur/manathil.html
