Now matches are International
and this match-fixing reportedly occurred during the Champions trophy where his
team fared poorly and Indians won the title.
He was a genuine quickie with
toe-crushers and could hit the ball over the park – feared by all – Wasim Akram
made a mark in his playing days before turning to Coaching and becoming a
commentator. He along with Muthiah
Muralitharan are the two players in the elite 500 wicket club in One dayers. He might be having a sad connection with
Chennai ~ his wife Huma Akram passed away in Chennai after being treated at Apollo Hospital .
Huma, a hypnotherapist in Pakistan , was admitted to the hospital after she had a heart attack when the air
ambulance on which she was being flown to Singapore
from Lahore
landed at Chennai airport for a scheduled refuelling. She was treated for a
'fever of unknown origin,' suspected to be brain fever. She also suffered
multiple organ failure, said hospital sources. Huma was on ventilator and
developed sepsis - an inflammation of several tissues including blood - that
led to kidney failure. She was under dialysis and did not respond to medicines.
Her death in Chennai had
repercussions in Lahore .
Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza
Gilani ordered an inquiry after former Pakistan
cricket captain Wasim complained that poor medical facilities and negligence at
the National Hospital
and the Doctor's Hospital in Lahore
led to his wife’s death. ‘The licences of 17 doctors have been cancelled over
negligence in the treatment of Wasim’s wife Huma,’ the ministry announced in a
statement after a meeting of the National Assembly standing committee on
health. Wasim told the committee the National
Hospital charged 16.8
million rupees (200,000 dollars) for treatment and other charges to airlift the
patient. Federal Health Minister Ijaz Jakhrani told reporters the investigation
revealed Huma’s death was due to the negligence of the doctors. Wasim vowed to
continue his fight to improve poor medical facilities which he believed
contributed to his wife’s death. Wasim Akram was quoted as saying that he did not
want any revenge but would want to launch a campaign against poor medical
facilities and negligence so that such tragic deaths do not occur in future.
Now his marriage proposal has
hit headlines in Australia
and elsewhere. According to sources, Akram, 47, had proposed Melbourne
based Ms. Thompson, 30, a Public
relations consultant, in Manchester during
Champions Trophy 2013. The Herald Sun
further reported that Ms. Thompson has converted to Islam and will call Pakistan home. The
daily quoted Ms. Thompson as saying that Wasim Akram asked her what her dream
proposal would be and she said she was not the type of woman who likes a big
scene. She added that She said Akram was nervous about proposing in the
traditional way, but he swung it right.
The dashing cricketer has
been in news with celebrated beauties since the death of his wife. The most
notable of them was Indian diva Sushmita Sen. But later they both dismissed it
as a rumour and dubbed it as rubbish.
