A fire in
a hotel in suburb of Delhi is unlikely to stir many other than Insurers, who
would immediately check their exposure in that area !
In 3rd
Test at Ranchi, Australia eventually folded up at 451 and Indians started a
strong reply. In 50 years, Australia
have won only two Test series here. In search of the next, their players are
drilled with a mantra that former legspinner Jim Higgs found written on a wall
in Chennai. 'To lose patience is to lose the battle'. Australia do not do
patience well; not as a team and perhaps not even as a country, if the recent
Prime Ministers shuffle is anything to go by.
But its captain Steve Smith did with his fine 178 n.o. The
end was to occur in over 138 in a strange way – Ravindra Jadeja, Indian star
bowler with 5 wickets doing a Dhoni !
137.3 : Jadeja to Smith, 1 run, OUT, full, on the
pads, dug out slightly wide of short fine
leg. Rahul, the fielder and Smith wanted to steal the second. The throw was not
the greatest but Jadeja was – he bent low to collect the throw and with his
back to the stumps, back-flicked the
ball onto the stumps catching Hazelwood unawares !
Vijay Hazare
Trophy, also known as the Ranji One Day Trophy, was started in 2002–03 as a
limited-overs cricket domestic competition involving state teams from the Ranji
Trophy plates. It is named after the famous Indian cricketer Vijay Hazare. Tamil
Nadu have won the trophy 4 times. Jharkhand won the trophy in 2011- TN has
another chance now.
Dwarka is a
neighbourhood of Delhi, located in the district of South West Delhi in
India. Dwarka is organised into
Cooperative Group Housing Societies. It is one of the most sought-after
residential areas in the city and has
the largest rooftop solar plant in Union Territory of Delhi. Dwarka is being
developed as a smart city under Delhi Development Authority's ‘smart sub-city’
project.
There were a total
of 540 people inside Welcome Hotel in Dwarka when the fire was reported on the
first floor around 6am. Many were trapped inside, but the fire fighters and
police managed to rescue them. The blaze reportedly started at a Reliance store located on the
first floor of the hotel, said Surender Kumar, DCP (South-West). Rishiraj Singh, the general manager of the
hotel, denied that the fire broke out in the hotel premises. “A fire broke out
in the shopping mall, adjacent to the hotel. In keeping with our safety and
security guidelines, as a precautionary measure, we evacuated all our guests,”
he said. The ground, first and second floor of one half of the building houses
a mall. The hotel rooms are located above these floors.
Though police said
that the fire was brought under control by 8.30am, fire officers said the fire
fighting operations continued after that too.
The extent of the damage and the cause of the blaze is yet to be
ascertained. One might find so much
being written about that fire in a hotel, for the icon MS Dhoni was staying there
along with his Jharkhand team.
A fire accident at
Jharkhand's team hotel in New Delhi's Dwarka area on today morning has resulted
in postponement of the second semi-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The match
between Jharkhand and Bengal will now be played on Saturday at Feroz Shah
Kotla.
"We were to
assemble in the lobby at 7.30am as we usually do before a game, but at 7, I was
asked to stay back in the room by Pratyush Singh as there was lot of fire and
smoke at the ground floor lobby," Ishank Jaggi, the Jharkhand batsman,
told ESPNcricinfo. "It spread quite quickly and when we finally got out of
our seventh floor rooms, all we could see around us was smoke. It was so thick
that we couldn't even see the far end of the lobby. "What added to our concern was the fire
alarm didn't go off, so we assumed it to be a small fire accident. But when
there was a strong burning smell, we were asked to vacate immediately. The
seriousness of it struck us only when we got out. The smoke spread to our rooms
as well. That is when we were asked to run down the stairs."
After getting out
of the hotel, MS Dhoni, the captain, along with the rest of the players and
support staff were driven to the Palam grounds, where they are currently
housed. The final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Feroz Shah Kotla was subsequently
postponed to Monday, 20th Mar 2017.
