India beats Australia in WC 2019 ~ scores over 300 in ODI

Cricket World Cup 2019 continues to be very interesting !  Today at London, India play Australia in match no. 14 (ODI no. 4155) .. .. and a great day for the team.

South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir created history in the opening game of World Cup 2019 against England at the Oval on Thursday. He became the first spinner to bowl the first over in the tournament.  In the World Cup history, it is our own S Madanlal, who bowled the first delivery to Dennis Amiss way back on 7.6.1975.

Today, Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bat .. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan opened and started off cautiously.  Rohit made 57 off 7o..  Dhawan made a classy 117; Kohli made his 50^th 50  ~ Hardik Pandya made a scorcher 48 off 27;  MS Dhoni cameo 27 ended up Indian total of 352 in 50 – a very formidable total. 

There have only been 2 instances of Australia conceding more than 300 in a WC – other than today’s 352, it was Srilanka chasing and making 312.  For India, this is our fourth highest in WC.  With 1273 partnership runs, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan has become the top duo going past Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes.  Today they had a century stand which is their sixth against Australia.   

300+ is indeed formidable – in One dayers, India has made scores of 300+ in 107 matches and have won 82 times when they scored over 300.  Our first score of 300+ came on apr 15, 1996 in Pepsi Sharjah Cup against Pakistan. India made 305/5 and won by 28 runs.  Not many would remember that Sachin Tendulkar opened with Vikram Rathour.  Man of the match Sachin made 118 while Navjot Sidhu made 101. Ajay Jadeja followed while Javgal Srinath was promoted in the order. Sanjan Manjrekar too played in that match.  Tendulkar and Sidhu had a partnership of 231. Paki attack consisted off Waqar Younis, Aaqib Javed, Ataur Rehman, Saqlain Mushtaq and Aamer Sohail.  Rehman had forgettable figures of 10-0-85-1.  Indian attack was Javgal Srinath, B Venkateshwara Prasad, anil Kumble, Ashish Kapoor, Sachin Tendulkar and Ajay Jadeja. 

The first time when 300 was breached in ODI Cricket too involved India, but what every Indian would like to forget !!  ~ it was the 1^st match of Prudential WC at London on 7.6.1975.  England made 334/4 while Indians made an ungainly crawling 132/3 in 60  overs.   Madanlal bowled the first delivery to Dennis Amiss who opened with JA Jameson.  Amiss made 137. Fletcher made 48, Tony GReig was out for 4,  Chris Old played a cameo making 52 off 30.  Madanlal, Mohinder amaranth, Karsan Ghavri, Eknath solkar and Srinivasan Venkatraghavan were the bowlers.   

Needing  335 – Sunil Gavaskar made 36 not out off 174  deliveries.  Solkar made 8, Anshuman Gaekwad made 22, Gundappa Viswanath 37, Brijesh Patel 16 not out,.  Indians would certainly like to forget this match.

India has won the match today by 36 runs .. .. Well played Team India
