politicians of Lithuania ~ Chess player and Economists !!

Speaker of Lithuanian Parliament   and   India‘s World chess champion Vishwanathan Anand on a virtual interview on DD India Sports 360, and shared many moves on life‘s chessboard in an interesting and engaging conversation. The interview  was aired in India on March 11th, the Restoration of Independence Day of Lithuania.  Wonder what is the news in this ??

 


Peter Heine Nielsen  is a Danish chess player and trainer. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1994. He coached world champions Vishwanathan Anand and Magnus Carlsen winning World Championships  ~ still what is the connection ?

Čmilytė-Nielsen spent her early chess career being coached by her father. In 1993, she won the European Youth Chess Championship in the under-12 girls category, and later won the 1995 World Youth Chess Championship in the same category.   By 2001, she was ranked number one by FIDE amongst girls.   She was awarded the Grandmaster title in 2010, having gained the required norms in the 2008 Gibraltar Chess Festival, 2009 European Team Chess Championship and 2010 European Women's Individual Championship. In 2011, Čmilytė-Nielsen finally took the gold medal in the European Women's Individual Championship.

The Vilnia  is a river that emanates from ge of Vindžiūnai, 5 km south of Šumskas, at the Lithuanian-Belarusian border. The Vilnia is 79.6 km long and its basin covers 624 sq. km, flowing into the Baltic Sea. Its confluence with the Neris lies within the city of Vilnius, and the river's name was probably the source of the city's name.  The Seimas   is the unicameral parliament of Lithuania. Lithuania  is a country in the Baltic region of Europe. Lithuania is one of the Baltic states. Situated on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea, to the southeast of Sweden and Denmark, Lithuania is bordered by Latvia, Belarus, Poland and Kaliningrad Oblast (a Russian exclave).   The capital and largest city is Vilnius and other major cities are Kaunas and Klaipėda. The official language, Lithuanian, is one of only two living languages in the Baltic branch of the Indo-European language family, the other being Latvian.

                 In the 1230s, the Lithuanian lands were united by Mindaugas and the Kingdom of Lithuania was created on 6 July 1253. During the 14th century, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was the largest country in Europe; present-day Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, and parts of Poland and Russia were the territories of the Grand Duchy.  As World War I neared its end, Lithuania's Act of Independence was signed on 16 Feb 1918, declaring the founding of the modern Republic of Lithuania. During the Second World War, Lithuania was first occupied by the Soviet Union and then by Nazi Germany. As World War II neared its end and the Germans retreated, the Soviet Union reoccupied Lithuania. On 11 March 1990, a year before the formal dissolution of the Soviet Union, Lithuania became the first Baltic state to proclaim its independence, resulting in the restoration of the independent State of Lithuania.

Lithuania is a developed country with an advanced, high-income economy, a very high Human Development Index, a very high standard of living and performs favourably in measurements of civil liberties, press freedom, internet freedom, democratic governance and peacefulness. Lithuania is a member of the European Union, the Council of Europe, eurozone, Schengen Agreement, NATO and OECD.  

Ingrida Šimonytė  is an economist who is the current Prime Minister of Lithuania, having taken office on 25 Nov 2020. She is the second woman to hold the office, following Kazimira Prunskienė. Šimonytė has served as a member of the Seimas for the Antakalnis constituency since 2016 and was minister of finance in the second Kubilius cabinet from 2009 until 2012. She was a candidate in the 2019 presidential election. Šimonytė is an independent politician, although she has been affiliated with the Homeland Union.

Gitanas Nausėda is a Lithuanian economist, politician and banker who is the current president of Lithuania. He was previously the director of Monetary Policy at the Bank of Lithuania from 1996 until 2000, and chief economist to the chairman of SEB bankas from 2008 until 2018.



Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen  described in 3rd para as Chess player is   a Lithuanian politician who is currently the speaker of the Seimas. Awarded the title Grandmaster by FIDE in 2010, she was European women's champion in 2011, and is a two-time Lithuanian champion. Čmilytė-Nielsen began her career in politics in 2015, when she was selected to replace Remigijus Šimašius in the Seimas for the Liberal Movement, becoming the Seimas opposition leader in 2019, and being elected chairperson of the Liberal Movement later that year. She led the party into the 2020 parliamentary election, where they won 13 seats.

Peter Heine Nielsen   is a Danish chess player and trainer. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1994. He coached world champions Vishwanathan Anand and Magnus Carlsen. Nielsen lives in Lithuania and is the husband of  Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, the present speaker of Lithuania, who was a Chess player and was featured in that virtual interview with Vishwanathan Anand
