women fights, chases away Cheetah !!

நம் வீட்டில் நம் உபயோகத்தில் இருந்து, இப்போது பலபொருட்கள் வழக்கு ஒழிந்துவிட்டன.  இப்போதுள்ள இளைய தலைமுறைக்கு அவற்றை தெரியவே தெரியாது !   அவற்றில் ஒன்று முறம் !  .. .. முறம் - என்ன?  எப்படி இருக்கும் ? அதன் பயன்கள் ஞாபகம் உள்ளதா ?  கலகலப்பு பட சந்தானம் / விமல் காமெடியை எவ்வளவு ரசித்தீர்கள் ?? 

முறம் என்பது தானியங்களை உமி, கல் போன்றவற்றிலிருந்து பிரித்தெடுக்க பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டது. இவ்வாறு பிரித்தெடுப்பதை புடைத்தல் என்பர்.   முறத்தை பயன்படுத்துவது அவ்வளவு எளிதல்ல.  முறத்தில் இருக்கும் கல்/உமி கலந்த தானியத்தை மேல்நோக்கி வீசி எழுப்பி அதை மீண்டும் பிடிக்கவேண்டும். தானியத்திற்கும், கல், உமி போன்ற கலப்புபொருளுக்கும் உள்ள எடை வேறுபாட்டால் அவை வெவ்வேறு இடங்களில் விழும். இதை தொடர்ந்து செய்யும்பொழுது தானியம் ஒருபுறமாகவும் கலப்புபொருள் ஒருபுறமாகவும் பிரியும் !!

 

முறம் -  மூங்கிலை நீளவாக்கில் மெல்லியதாக சீவி, அதிலிருந்து பின்னப்படும்.   அரிசி புடைக்கவும், கல்நீக்கவும், நொய்பிரிக்கவும், கீரைஆய்வதற்கும், தானியங்களைத் தூற்ற, புடைக்க, கோணிப்பையில் வாரி திணிக்க,  குப்பைகளை அள்ளுவதற்கும் முறம் பயன்பட்டது. மூங்கில் கொண்டு பின்னப்பட்ட முறத்தில், சிறுசிறு இடைவெளிகள் இருக்கும். இந்த இடைவெளியில் தானியங்கள் சிந்திவிடாமல் இருக்க, சாணத்தை கெட்டியாகக்  கரைத்துப்பூசி, காயவைப்பார்கள்.  நெற்களத்தில், பதரும்தூசுமாக இருக்கும் நெல்லை, முறத்தில்அள்ளி, தலைக்கு மேலே தூக்கிப் பிடித்து தூற்றுவார்கள். தூற்றும்போது காற்றுவீசினால், நெல்தனியாகவும், தூசு, பதரு தனியாகவும் பிரியும். 

முறம் ஒன்றும் வலுவானது அல்ல !  -  ஆனால் அந்த முறத்தை உபயோகித்து, பண்டையகால தமிழ்மங்கை புலியை விரட்டியதாக சொல்லப்படுவதுஒரு வீரத்தின் வெளிப்பாடே !! இந்த நிகழ்வு  , கபிலரின் கலித்தொகையில் உள்ளது.   தமிழ்ப் பெண்களின் பயமின்மைக்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டாக இக்கதையை கூறுவர்.  முறம் பற்றி பிறிதொரு இடத்தில்: 

முறஞ்செவி மறைப்பாய்பு முரண் செய்த புலிசெற்று,

மறம் தலைக்கொண்ட நூற்றுவர் தலைவனைக்

குறங்கு அறுத்திடுவான் போல், கூர்நுதி  மடுத்து, 

முறம் போன்ற காதுகளை உடைய கம்பீரமான ஆண்யானை, முரண் கொண்டு தன்மீது பாயும் புலியைக் கொன்றது.  அறநெறி பிறழ்ந்து மறநெறியைக் கைக்கொண்ட நூற்றுவர் தலைவன் துரியோதனன் தொடையை பீமசேனன் கிழித்தெறிந்தான். அவன் கிழித்தது போன்று யானை தன் கூர்மையான கொம்புகளால் புலியைக் குத்தித் கிழித்தெரிந்தது!!.

 

In Tamil comedy film ‘Kalakalappu’, directed by Sundar C ~ Santhanam will show a portrait of a man attacking  cheetah with a sickle. Vimal would remark having seen it elsewhere… Santhanam would retort  saying that it was his grandfather attacking the tiger – the photo which they later gave to matchbox manufacturer….. to Vimal’s remark that it does not sound believable!,  Santhanam would say that his grandfather told him that ‘food would be provided only if he believes’  and would ask Vimal whether he would like to dine or not  !!!  - yes meals are most important ! 

Wimco Limited was  a reputed manufacturer and exporter of Cardboard matches, Veneer Matches, Safety Matches, Match Box, Wax Matches and the more… you would know them better by this single product ‘Cheetah fight matchboxes’….. there was a time, when they introduced ‘carborised matchbox’ and scored over their competitors.  It is likely that ‘matchbox’ no longer has a big market. 

Elsewhere in rural India, Leela Latwal came back from the jaws of death, quite literally. The 45-year-old woman,  was attacked by a tiger; fought the feline by striking repeatedly on the animal's head with her sickle. The incident occurred at Jawahar Jyoti Damuadhunga near Haldwani in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.  

Leela was in the forest, cutting grass when the big cat attacked her. A few other women who were with her, recalled that the tiger tried to drag her into the dense forest but she resisted it fiercely. Sharing her experience of the miraculous escape, Leela, who is currently recuperating in hospital, told TOI over phone, “While cutting grass, I could sense that a wild animal was slowly coming towards me. As soon as I turned, it grabbed my head with its jaws and dug its sharp claws on my left shoulder. I was staring at death for sure – and  all I could think of was to fight back with all my might. Soon, I realised that I was up against a tiger."   

She further said, “After striking the tiger a few times on its head with a sickle, I started screaming for help. The tiger then left me and moved a little away, possibly thinking that I may fall unconscious and it would drag me away. But I got up, picked up a stone and stared back at it with the sickle in my other hand." In the meantime, the other women came around and soon, Leela was taken to a hospital.“She suffered multiple injuries and had to get 30 stitches in her head and at least 10 on the shoulder,” said Ghanshyam Latwal, her husband who runs a small tea shop in Mukhani.  

Forest officials said that since the incident took place inside the forest area and the woman was there to collect fodder which is against rules, they won't be able to provide her with any compensation. However, they added that they are willing to support her medical expenses.  

Life is a great struggle for some – and few get over every crisis with their will power and presence of mind – for every living thing, food is important.
