The 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup is the eighth ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament. It is being played in Australia from 16 October to 13 November 2022 .. .. the twelve teams that reached the Super 12 phase of the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup automatically qualified for the 2022 tournament. The remaining four places came from the top two teams from each of the two Global Qualifiers.

Today in the 1st match, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first likely owing to their preference to chase scores. Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus said he would have liked to chase as well. Injured Dilshan Madushanka is out of T20 World Cup; Binura Fernando named as his replacement. After being put into bat first, Namibia posted 163 for 7 in 20 overs. At 93 for 6 in 14.2 overs, Namibia were in deep trouble. Jan Frylinck (44 off 28b; 4×4) and JJ Smit (31 not out off 16b; 2×4, 2×6) put on a 70-run stand for the seventh wickets in just 34 balls. The partnership proved to be a match-winning one. For Sri Lanka, Pramod Madushan Liyanagamage (2/37), Maheesh Theekshana (1/23), Dushmantha Chameera (1/39), Chamika Karunaratne (1/36), and Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva (1/27) shared the spoils.
Sri Lanka's chase of 164 never took off as Namibia kept chipping away at their lineup. Ben Shikongo rattled the Sri Lankan top order when he took two wickets in the space of six balls to remove Danushka Gunathilaka and Pathum Nissanka in the fourth over. It was a double-wicket maiden. Bernard Scholtz, David Wiese and Frylinck also picked two wickets each. Namibia beat Sri Lanka by 55 runs in the opening game in 2022 Men's T20 World Cup in Australia on Sunday. Sri Lanka was bowled out for just 108 in 19 overs.
