What is life about ! – perhaps Expectations and talking to people. Ever heard of Cohort table. Are you happy ? Actually there is world of difference between ‘Expectation of Life & Expectations in life’ !!
Very simply put – to be happy – have lesser expectations. Raising your expectations to a level that you could meet them leads to happiness while thinking beyond leads to unhappiness. Life is too unpredictable for that. But for centuries the inner path has been extolled as the best thing about being human. Therefore, it isn't simplistic to say that for someone who hasn't explored the inner path, the bar of expectations has been set much too low. Expectations are how we hope or anticipate life will be.
They encompass all areas of our lives—our work, our relationships, the way our life will unfold. They play a major part in how our goals and general life direction are formed. While these are about what we expect in life, how long our life is altogether different perspective.
Life expectancy, is the estimate of the average number of additional years that a person of a given age can expect to live. The most common measure of life expectancy is life expectancy at birth. Life expectancy is a hypothetical measure. It assumes that the age-specific death rates for the year in question will apply throughout the lifetime of individuals born in that year. The estimate, in effect, projects the age-specific mortality (death) rates for a given period over the entire lifetime of the population born (or alive) during that time.
A cohort life table shows the probability of a person from a given cohort dying at each age over the course of their lifetime. In this context, a cohort refers to a group of people with the same year of birth.
What you expect
from life is crucially important, but measuring them and setting goals is very
difficult. A leading measure of how well
a society is doing touches upon expectations. Well-being is correlated with how
many people report that they are thriving, and you'd expect that in prosperous
developed countries, a healthy percentage of people think they are thriving.
If one were to take
one’s own example - where do you stand
with your expectations? Most focus could be on what you have in terms of : money, family, and relationships. If you are
in a happy married life, surrounded by a
happy family, and free from financial problems, you probably count yourself
very lucky. So many people fall sort of these goals, and few are so fulfilled
that they'd consider themselves to be thriving.
The biggest challenge these days is that of people feeling the pressure and feeling that they are not worthy and have lost in life’s race, which actually is foolish most times. Talk to people openly – there is no race and there are no comparisons – life is too short to be lived worrying !
