Egrets - Kokku !! - கொக்கொக்க கூம்பும் பருவத்து

Egrets  !   are herons, generally long-legged wading birds, that have white or buff plumage, developing fine plumes (usually milky white) during the breeding season.

 

In this rainy season, Chennai has wet mornings and if you are watching out – you may observe white birds flying over  – for people of limited knowledge (euphemism for ignorance) – all black birds are Crows; brown are  Pigeons; green -  Parrots and White ones are – Cranes (கொக்கு)  .. .. the ones photographed here, flew at great heights in the sky and was not easy to capture !  

கொக்குகள் (Egret) அர்டெயிடே குடும்பத்தினைச் சார்ந்த பறவைகளாகும்.  இவை வெள்ளை அல்லது வெளிர் மஞ்சள் இறகுகளைக் கொண்டன. இனப்பெருக்க காலத்தில் மென்மையான புகைத்திரை (பொதுவாகப் பால் வெள்ளை) போன்ற இறகுகளைக் கொண்டுள்ளன.  வெள்ளையாக, நெட்டை கால்களுடன் காணப்பட்டால் அவை நமக்கு கொக்கு !!  

கொக்கு மற்றும் அதன் பொறுமை இலக்கிய நூல்களில் போற்றப்பட்டுள்ளது.  ஓட மீன் ஓட - உறுமீன் வரும் வரும் வரை காத்து இருக்கும் கொக்கு அறிவீர்கள் - இது ஔவையாரின் மூதுரை.  திருவள்ளுவ பெருந்தகை கொக்கை பற்றி இயம்பும் திருக்குறள் இங்கே :

இக்குறளின் கருத்து  :  சமயங்கள் எப்போதும் சாதகமாக அமையா !!  பொறுத்திருக்கும் காலத்தில் கொக்குப் போல் அமைதியாக இருக்க வேண்டும், சரியான காலம் வாய்த்த போது அதன் குத்து போல் தவறாமல் செய்து முடிக்க வேண்டும்.
