ஓ மானே மானே மானே.. உன்னைத்தானே

என் கண்ணில் உன்னைக்கண்டேன்,  சின்னப்பெண்ணே

 

-a melodious song sung by SP Balasubramaniam and S Janaki, lyrics Na Kamarasan to the tune of Isaigani Illayaraja – movie Vellai Roja released in 1983    directed by A. Jagannathan and written and A. L. Narayanan. The film starred Sivaji Ganesan, Ambika, Prabhu and Radha.  It was a remake of the 1982 Malayalam film Post Mortem. 

The blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra), also known as the Indian antelope, is a medium-sized antelope native to India and Nepal. It inhabits grassy plains and lightly forested areas with perennial water sources.  The white fur on the chin and around the eyes is in sharp contrast with the black stripes on the face. Both sexes' coats feature a two-tone colouration.  The blackbuck is the sole living member of the genus Antilope and was described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758.  The blackbuck is active mainly during the day.   The lifespan is typically 10 to 15 years.

 

Black buck - கருப்பு மான் அல்ல !  - புல்வாய்  மான்கள் என்பது இந்தியத் துணைக் கண்டத்தைத் தோன்றிடமாகக் கொண்ட மான் இனமாகும். இதில் ஆண் மான் இரலை என்றும் பெண் மான் கலை என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகின்றது. இதுதவிர புல்வாய் மானுக்கு திருகுமான், வெளிமான், முருகுமான் என்று பல்வேறு தமிழ்ப்பெயர்கள் உள்ளன. இம்மான்கள் அகன்ற சம தரை வெளிகளில் பெருந்திரள்களாக குடியிருந்தன. மனிதர்கள் வேட்டையாடிக் கொன்றதால் இப்பொழுது இவற்றின் தொகை குறைந்துவிட்டது;  இவ்விலங்கு ஆந்திரப்பிரதேச மாநில விலங்காகும்.
