That imposing [Red / Saffron] structure at 149 Big
Street, Triplicane, Chennai 600 005 - is
all important landmark by itself !! -
bricks and saffron coloured walls with Indo-sarsenic architecture has inspired
many and created many worthy students.
Hindu High School founded as Dravida Patasala for Tamil boys which later amalgamated with The Hindu Andhra Balura Patasala for Telegu boys that were in existence in 1852. In 1860 they were amalgamated as The Triplicane Andhra Dravida Balura Patasala and in 1898 renamed “ The Hindu High School”.
It is my good fortune that I studied in this glorious edifice. I studied there from 6th standard till 12th Standard (the maximum span then) – I completed +2 Commerce Group in Apr 1981.
The
School boasts of many illustrious personalities and has had great teachers shaping the
destiny of hundreds of students. Among the many doyens was ‘silver tongued orator’ of Madras, the Rt.
Hon. VS Srinivasa Sastry whose English was praised even by Winston
Churchill, was once headmaster of this
school. Yet another illustrious alumnus was S Chandrashekhar, the Nobel
laureate.
My batch would turn 60 ! this year and today it was sashtiyabdapoorthi for TR Raghu, who retired from LIC.
Was very happy to attend, meet some of my schoolmates and more importantly – great teachers like Mr TR Rajagopal (TRR, father of Raghu); Mr SK Seshan, Mr Thirumalai, Mr KG Sivaramakrishnan (KGS); Mr T Vipra Narayanan .. ..
Regards to
my teachers
